Japan, Vietnam agree South China Sea ruling must be observed-Kyodo

"The award opens a horizon of possibilities for all stakeholders. We will go for peaceful talks", Duterte said in a speech on Thursday night in a testimonial dinner tendered in his honour by the San Beda Alumni Association at the historic Club Filipino in Metro Manila.

"War is not an option", he said.

"If you understand how the other side lives, you're more tolerant", he said.
