Cameron Signs Off as May Prepares to Assume U.K. Premiership

"Florence - you once climbed into one, before a foreign trip, and said, 'Take me with you.' No more boxes".

Cameron did plenty, leading his party back to power after years in the wilderness and then to a landslide win in last year's elections.

Before leaving the Prime Minister's residence - 10 Downing Street - for the last time, Cameron addressed the press for the last time as the country's head of government.

David Cameron's last appearance in Parliament as British Prime Minister ended in a standing ovation after a bravura 36-minute performance that taunted his rivals, reflected on his legacy and confessed his love for the office cat, Larry. "It is easy to say but hard to do", the 49-year-old said before getting into waiting cars to be driven to Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth II.

David Cameron has again hit headlines in the media, but not for Brexit.

Earlier in the session, SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson told Cameron that while they had political differences, he extended his "best personal wishes to the Prime Minister and to his family".

The outgoing prime minister was in favour of staying with European Union, and made a decision to step down after the election result.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister, Theresa May".

May will later visit the palace, where the queen will ask her to form a new government.

After meeting with the Queen, Theresa May can place her feet firmly under the desk at No 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister of Great Britain. He also thanked his wife Samantha for her support.

Labour MPs also joining in with the clapping, including leader Jeremy Corbyn.

During his six years at 10 Downing Street Larry has met with a number of world leaders, most notably US President Barack Obama.

Mrs May suddenly won the Conservative leadership contest after rival candidate Andrea Leadsom pulled out on Monday.
