South Sudan's Machar fires mining minister

"But the position of the government is that any intervention will be considered as an invasion, and the force will be treated as hostile and will be met with same hostility from the people of Southern Sudan", the former envoy added arguing that events from Iraq, Somalia, Libya, and Afghanistan interventions had shown that it helps sink those nations to more turmoil and they don't want South Sudan to be part of those statistics.

Although a fragile ceasefire has held since last Monday, UN has warned of the possibility of fresh fighting in the capital.

Nyarji Roman, a spokesman for Machar's side who is also in hiding, said Saturday the move is a "conspiracy" to overthrow Machar. These meetings were conducted without the knowledge and consent of the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, who is the only signatory in the August 17 & 26, 2015 Peace Agreement.

"By his action of defection, I have therefore relieved him from his positions as member of the SPLM/SPLA-IO Political Bureau and as chairman of the National Committee for Reconciliation and Healing", Machar said in the letter to Kiir.

"The country needs peace and the country needs everyone's efforts".

The talks resulted into the signing of the Peace agreement to resolve the conflict in South Sudan.

Two years of civil war that erupted after Kiir sacked Machar as Vice President in 2013 has killed more than 10,000 people and displaced over 2 million, many of whom fled to neighbouring countries. The government also organized demonstrations in Juba and in some states to reject the deployment of additional foreign forces with senior officials vowing to fight them should they deploy.

The mission office Staff and supporters in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS would like to reiterate that it stands solid and with confidence behind H.E. First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar Teny and appeal to AU, IGAD, TROIKA, EU and United Nations to stop the government from it quests of political assassination of it opponents and put an end to the suffering of the people of South Sudan.

He had pledged to guarantee his rival's safety.

Deng will serve until Machar returns to the capital, Gatkuoth said.

But Machar has refused until a neutral force - agreed in principle by the African Union - is deployed.

The minister who belonged to the SPLM-IO has instead been supporting President Kiir's arguments against his leader.
