Speed boat crash in MA leaves 1 dead, 1 critical

MA authorities have released the identities of a New Hampshire man who was killed and two Mainers who were injured in a speedboat racing accident Saturday at a Taunton pond.

Police said one of the boats spun out at 65 miles per hour, causing a pileup with two other boats.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office says the collision happened Saturday afternoon during the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta on Watson Pond in Taunton.

All three male drivers were thrown from their boats as a result.

A 39-year-old New Hampshire man, who was driving the second boat that collided, died at the scene, the Bristol County DA's office said. The second boat, operated by the now deceased, collided with the first; and then the third boat, operated by the Mainer now in critical condition, crashed into the second. The third, Alex Poliakoff, 72, of Richmond, Maine, sustained minor injuries.

Members of the Taunton FD's dive team were on scene and were quickly able to pull all three individuals from the water.

Authorities have released the names of the three people who were involved in a fatal boat crash on Watson Pond on Saturday.

Sgt. Thomas Ryan of the Massachusetts State Police said the crash is under investigation by the Environmental Police.
