Former Israeli President Shimon Peres hospitalized after stroke

Translation: "I wish former President Shimon Peres a speedy recovery".

When a far-right Jewish Israeli opposed to the peace deal shot dead Rabin in November 1995, Peres became prime minister. It was announced that he was put under sedation to ease the continued treatment and connected to a respirator.

The implant was recommended by Peres's doctors, including his personal physician, Dr. Raphi Walden, after he was diagnosed in July with atrial fibrillation.

Peres successfully underwent minor surgery at Tel HaShomer Hospital in January.

On January 14, 2016 the same hospital released the senior statesman in stable condition after he had suffered a mild heart attack. According to The Associated Press, he served three terms as prime minister and held the posts of foreign minister and finance minister.

Since leaving the presidency, Peres frequently hosted public events at his peace centre, bringing together Arabs and Jews in efforts to promote coexistence.
