Google Play Store now available for (some) Chromebooks on stable channel

Once you do this, you should be able to find the Google Play Store in your Home Screen or Apps.

Google Play and Android apps moved a step closer to a broader release to more devices today, thanks to a graduation of the Google Play beta experience to Chrome OS stable. What I'm saying is that Chrome OS stable (v53.0.2785.129) now has access to Google Play and Android apps, though only on two devices at the moment.

Google had confirmed on its release page that the recent stable channel updated release was as of now meant only for the Asus Chromebook Flip and for the Acer Chromebook R11. At its I/O 2016 developer conference in May, Google announced Google Play is coming to Chrome OS. Does the ability to run Android apps on Chromebooks like the Acer R 11 make them more attractive, or does the price make you want to just buy an expensive Windows laptop and call it a day? And now the tech giant has brought this Chrome 53 version a gift of Google Play Store on a beta update.

For Asus Chromebook Flip and Acer Chromebook R11 owners who have not received such update yet, head over to Settings About Chrome OS and check for updates.

You should note that the Google Play has been turned off on default in the latest update. According to reports, the Google Play Store BETA version is now limited for devices such as Acer R11 and Asus Flip and can be enabled by heading to the Settings page. Furthermore, it still carries the Beta tag irrespective of whether it is in the stable channel or not. Google Pixel (2015) has not been included in the official announcement, and there is no official statement until now as to when it would get the store in Stable channel. Later the Google Play came to Chrome OS in developing channel, then turned to be in Beta channel. Keep this in mind that you will need Android 4.0 running at the bare minimum for the app to be compatible with your smartphone or tablet.
