White House decides to keep visitor records secret

During Spicer's daily press briefing, the Daily Caller's Kaitlan Collins asked the press secretary why the Trump administration hadn't opted to match former President Barack Obama's policy of voluntarily releasing White House visitor logs, with some exceptions. As a result, Obama's team frequently redacted names from the list of visitors that were released to the public, including celebrities and donors who were sighted on the White House grounds.

Mrs. Trump's White House visits have been few and far between since the president's inauguration, and her decision to stay in NY has been widely criticized for costing significant taxpayer money, even prompting a petition demanding that she move to the White House.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said Friday that it would not disclose the names of people who have visited the White House, ending a policy of President Barack Obama's that was created to promote transparency.

The yesterday's announcement has drawn scathing criticism from government watchdog groups. "We will comply with both the Federal Records Act and the Presidential Records Act as required by law".

The thing is, knowing who government leadership is interacting with is extremely important - especially in an administration that's as rife with conflicts of interest as Trump's is.

Dubke added that the logs would be disclosed "as outlined under the Freedom of Information Act".

While Obama allowed the records to be released and even posted the names on a special website, he could also remove any names he didn't want to be made public.

This is published unedited from the PTI feed. Trump officials made a point to note to Time that the Obama White House fought in court to keep elements of its logs, which were at times incomplete, redacted or withheld. And it should. The White House is the people's house.

"Elected officials work for the people and we deserve to see government business conducted in transparent daylight", Shakir said. The Trump White House calls it "duplicative".

The White House is not the only meeting location that watchdog groups are concerned about.

Over the past few months, Spicer was pressed repeatedly about when the Trump administration would be publishing the visitor logs.

"Melania Trump bringing and unifying her family under one roof of the White House is a very smart move, and a very traditional move". In the past three months, he has also taken some high profile guests to his Florida property, including England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and China's president Xi Jinping.

The money was raised through three committees: Donald J. Trump for President, Trump Victory, and Trump Make America Great Again Committee.

"We'll have to get back to you", said Spicer.
