Rugby League: Kidwell slams duo

Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor will not be selected for the 2017 World Cup, after allegations they took cocaine, say New Zealand Rugby League.

The Daily Telegraph's Jamie Pandaram is reporting an announcement is set to be made on Monday afternoon that NZRL will abandon Bromwich and Proctor from their World Cup plans.

In a statement released by Melbourne Storm, Bromwich said: " I'd like to start by firstly apologising to my family, Melbourne Storm, New Zealand Rugby League, the NRL, my team-mates, the sponsors, and the members and fans.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said: "The game has taken steps over many years to highlight the risks associated with the use of illicit drugs".

The dropping of both men will be a huge blow for New Zealand's World Cup campaign, however it's understood the severe move will serve as a cultural warning to every other player in contention for the tournament.

The NRL Integrity Unit has been notified through the New Zealand Rugby League officials.

Proctor has yet to face sanction from Gold Coast, however has already stepped down from playing duties and the captaincy of the NRL side.

The cocaine accused duo won't be in the squad for the World Cup.

Bromwich and Proctor admitted in separate statements they were too drunk to remember if they took any illegal drugs early on Saturday after their heavy loss to the Kangaroos.

Police allegedly observed Crowther on CCTV video preparing a white powder on his phone, before handing it to the two men, who rolled up bank notes and consumed the substance.

Coach David Kidwell said he was disappointed to hear of the accusations when he appeared on Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

"Jesse's acknowledged that he's put himself at risk, he's put the club at risk, he's done the wrong thing".

While both players were named in a court hearing at the weekend, neither has been charged with anything.

The Sydney Roosters outside back was arrested at the Ivy nightclub in Sydney at about 1am on Friday after allegedly being found with 0.46 grams of cocaine by police.
