'High possibility' of conflict with North Korea, says new South Korean President

Its latest ballistic missile firing was also the first one to be detected by the THAAD, the advanced U.S. missile defense system, which is already operational in South Korea, and can intercept ballistic missiles launched by the regime of Kim Jong-un.

"Every country has its own troubles". However, South Korea's new president Moon Jae-in wants to engage with the North and soothe tensions between the USA and China.

Harris also cautioned that the missile launch indicated a major advancement in the North's technological capabilities and called for further coordination among Japan, South Korea and the United States to deal with the increasing North Korean threat.

Communications were severed by the North a year ago, Lee said, in the wake of new sanctions following North Korea's fifth nuclear test and Pyongyang's decision to shut down a joint industrial zone operated inside the North.

The envoy said President Moon was also hoping for an early meeting.

Such moves underscore a willingness on the part of China's Communist Party leaders to fan the flames of anti-South Korea sentiment, said Korea expert Sung-Yoon Lee of Tufts University in MA.

Trump warned this month that a "major, major conflict" with North Korea was possible, and in a show of force, sent the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group to Korean waters to conduct drills with South Korea and Japan. "Calling the complete dismantlement of Pyongyang's nuclear programs an ultimate goal, Moon and Trump both believe that all possible means including sanctions and talks should be used". The launch of the missile has given the nation's leader Kim Jong Un a superior power over the rest that stand against the country including the United States of America and North Korea as well.

But the United States will not have any dialog with the North for the sake of dialog and the use of pressure was the premise in the approach to Pyongyang, Hong quoted Trump as saying, according to Yonhap.

The pair of rocky islets, known as Dokdo by South Korea, is controlled by Seoul but claimed by Tokyo.

North Korea on Sunday launched what appeared to be its longest-range ballistic missile yet, claiming it was capable of carrying a "heavy nuclear warhead" in a test aimed at bringing the USA mainland within reach. "And the United States is not past looking at third-country entities who are helping North Korea and putting sanctions on them". North Korea called on South Korea to honour and fully implement previous inter-Korean agreements on cooperation and reconciliation. They're intimidating the entire global community.

"We are determined to take care of South Korea, which is why we have our mission there, working and that, as well", Haley said on "This Week". The successful test represents a major step in the North's nuclear program. "The U.S., we are willing to talk - but not until we see a total stop of the nuclear process and any tests there".
