Hillary Clinton Practiced Resisting Trump Hugs During Debate Prep

Trump allegedly asked former FBI director James Comey to stop an investigation into links between former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and Russian Federation, according to a New York Times story based on reports of a memo written by Comey.

Philippe Reines, a Clinton operative who helped her prepare for her debates with Trump during the 2016 election, posted a video Friday on social media showing Clinton practicing ways to gracefully avoid a pre-debate Trump hug.

Well, now, thanks to some great behind-the-scenes video, we know that was also on the minds of the Clinton campaign. But, hey, at least they had a moment of fun before a devastating loss. Clinton was practicing her technique of greeting her opponent before a debate.

The Hill identifies Reines as the Trump stand-in. "A favorite moment from debate prep (9/24/16)". Trump then tried to pull him in for a hug.

Comey was also unsettled by Trump's attempts to establish a personal relationship with him and feared their interactions might jeopardize the investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation, according to associates who spoke to the New York Times.

It's one of Trump's well-known maneuvers, seemingly meant to turn a handshake into a judo-inspired show of dominance.

On Thursday, The New York Times published a story quoting Benjamin Wittes, a friend of Comey's, who described the ex-FBI director's efforts during a White House reception.

Her debate prep partner opens his arms to her, but the former Secretary of State grabs his hand and attempts to run away before he grabs her. "Bad enough that he was there; bad enough that there would be a handshake; he emphatically did not want any show of warmth", Wittes wrote.

In the video, she is seen avoiding his hug by reaching out and shaking his hand.

President Trump shook hands with FBI Director James B. Comey during a law enforcement reception at the White House on January 22.

In fact, during Trump's campaign he stated, "If I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your (Hillary Clinton) situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception".
