Two new caps in All Blacks Sevens team London tournament

The Scots won their maiden cup trophy in London a year ago, and this was only their second triumph in the sevens world series' 18 seasons.

It proved to be Scotland's second comeback victory of the day, after recovering from 21-0 down at half-time in the quarter-finals to beat New Zealand 24-21 for the first time.

Speaking afterwards, the head coach said: "I'm very, very pleased with the effort from the boys".

Earlier in the afternoon, England sealed their spot in the final following a 24-5 victory over Canada.

England playmaker Oliver Lindsay-Hague, who scored three tries in the semi-final win over Canada, was carried off on a cart early, but his teammates responded with a sensational try.

It is a special day for the England Sevens programme and it's exciting as we look to the future.

Olympic gold medallists Fiji, who last failed to reach the Cup back at Las Vegas in 2014, find themselves in the Challenge Trophy quarterfinals against Russian Federation and out of touch of England in the battle for second place in the overall standings.

The win was preserved by the youngest and smallest player on the squad, former Howe of Fife player George Horne, who made a brilliant cover tackle and turnover on Norton to allow the Scots to play out the final seconds.

The clash of New Zealand and Fiji is always interesting in London, and this match lived up to the hype.

Scotland's semi-final against the United States featured yet more drama when with the match tied at 14-14 and time up but the ball still in play, Jo Nayacavou crossed for the winning try to set up a final against tournament hosts England.

Scotland have been playing worldwide rugby union against New Zealand for 112 years.

Laidlaw may have gleaned some joy from the Twickenham tournament, with Scotland pipping England 12-7 in a tension-filled final. Werner Kok silenced the Twickenham faithful after the resumption of play with a well worked try, but went from hero to villan minutes later as he was sin-binned for a neck roll and James Rodwell levelled after good phase-play from the resulting penalty.

The Canada Sevens has a capacity for 6,430 over two days next Saturday and Sunday.
