Celtics pip Cavs with National Basketball Association buzzer-beater

The Celtics came out aggressive and energetic. Boston finished the half, strong to push the lead back to 10 points, 57-47.

Irving took over in the second half and finished with 42 points despite playing on a tender ankle, LeBron James added 34 and the Cleveland Cavaliers moved within one win of an nearly inevitable third date in the NBA Finals with Golden State by rallying to beat Boston 112-99 on Tuesday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. "I mean, LeBron James understands how to play the game and he understands what this (Cleveland) team needs from him". James, Irving and Kevin Love combined for 93 points, the most points the Cavs' three All-Stars have combined to score in a playoff game in their three years together. The Cavs will look to come out with a renewed focus in tonight's game based on their "letdown" in the previous contest.

Of course, LeBron's not the only player on the team. He rose to the occasion and he put the team on his back, and we definitely needed that effort from him.

"Very unstoppable", Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said of Kyrie Irving's one-on-one play.

So even if Silver was tempted to make the call, there's nearly zero chance of a salvage job in either of the conference finals. It's not enough for him. He knows that. We know that. Everyone expected James to be the dominant savior for Cleveland during Game 4, but it was Irving instead. Despite going 2-for-11 in the half, Bradley cashed in on a game-winning three to seal it for the Celtics.

- Jonas Jerebko scored nine points with five rebounds off the bench. The step-back 3-pointer Irving drained with.5 seconds left in the third, capping a 17-point swing for the Cavs was vintage Irving. Celtics without their lone All-Star, the injured Isaiah Thomas. He had six rebounds and six assists, but also committed six turnovers, including a costly miscue down the stretch when his pass was stolen by Jae Crowder.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens was disappointed with his team's defense on Irving, who was able to spread the floor while surrounded by shooters. They were getting the ball to the high post, letting Al Horford and Kelly Olynyk get downhill and find shooters in the corner on the collapse, a la Draymond Green in Golden State. "My teammates did a great job of keeping us in the game, building that lead".

The Celtics pulled the ultimate shocker over reigning National Basketball Association champions the Cavs when they rallied in game three for a 111-108 victory in the Eastern Conference finals on Sunday. Boston had been counted out, lost their best player, and been drug through the mud for the Game Two performance.

However, outside of the Cavalier duo being on fire, the Celtics were in a good place with the most offensive rhythm they've shown in the entire series and had a little something to build off of going into the locker room. The fan was removed by Cavs security personnel who stepped in. For over/under bettors, 217.5 points is the points total to speculate on. His most egregious miss was a 3-point bid with 5:45 left to play that, had it gone would have pulled the Celtics, trailing 98-92 at the time, to within 3 points.

LeBron James made history in the first half of Game 4 of the 2017 Eastern Conference finals. Fans can watch this game live on TNT.

The potentially harsh reality, a reality no one really wants to contemplate in the middle of another Finals run, is that James can become a free agent after next season.
