UAE urges Rouhani to reset Iran's foreign policy

Trump is inclined to see Iran as the source of most of the troubles in the Middle East, as his speech in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last weekend, demonstrated.

Iran's re-elected President Hassan Rouhani ridiculed U.S. strategy in the Middle East, dismissing Donald Trump's summit with Arab leaders as "just a show" and insisting that missile tests will continue. "We hope Europe does not fall into the trap of countries that promote their wrong interpretations of the region", Rouhani said.

"The Iranian nation has chose to be powerful".

Gulf Arab states expressed support for the deal, but also fears that the lifting of sanctions would enable Tehran to pursue destabilizing policies in the Middle East.

Rouhani was responding to a question on Monday from The Associated Press at a news conference in Tehran.

Trump also criticized Iran earlier in the trip for spreading "destruction and chaos" throughout the region.

Rouhani was re-elected in a landslide win Friday, after his first term saw a major nuclear arms deal with world powers in 2015.

"Today, we have come before the high spirit of the late Imam to report him that "As you always predicted, said and believed, people's power and presence everywhere can untie knots", said the President. He also called the Saudi summit a "show-off" convention that "will not have any political and practical values".

He said Iran was still forming its judgement of the Trump administration.

Iran's Supreme leader is the ultimate arbiter of the important issues, particularly those the United States is most concerned about: Iran's nuclear program, its ballistic missile force, its export of terrorism, and its efforts to export its revolution to Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and other places. At the same time, the USA imposed new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program and said it was continuing to review Iran's adherence to the 2015 nuclear accord.

"The Iraqi, Lebanese and Syrian nations have stood against terrorists and Iranian diplomats and advisors have been helping them", the Iranian president added. "We are waiting for the government to be well established so we can pass judgment", Rouhani said.

"The U.S. leaders should know that whenever we need a missile test because of a technical aspect, we will test", he said.

Moments before Mr Trump arrived in Tel Aviv and hailed Israel a "friend and ally" during the second leg of his first foreign tour, Iran hit back. He added that "until the Iranian regime is willing to be a partner for peace, all nations of conscience must work together to isolate it, deny it funding for terrorism". "When they imposed sanctions on us, they made a mistake", he said.
