Texas mom says she locked 2 kids in hot car, killing them

Randolph was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree injury to a child causing serious bodily injury in Weathorford, Texas.

After searching for them for more than half an hour, she said, she found them locked in a small four-door vehicle on the property.

"When they refused to exit, Randolph told police she shut the vehicle door to teach Juliet a lesson, thinking she could get herself and her brother out of the auto when ready", a probable cause affidavit for the incident stated. Authorities say that the suspect admitted to locking the toddlers inside her vehicle on goal to teach them a lesson. Randolph then told investigators she went into her home, smoked marijuana and went to sleep for two to three hours.

After extensive interviews with police, investigators determined that Randolph actually intentionally left the children in the auto to teach young Juliet a lesson. Even though, my mom could be completely nuts, she would never try to teach my brother and I a lesson by leaving us defenseless in a hot locked vehicle.

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 25, told investigators with the Parker County Sheriff's Office that she was trying to teach her 2-year-old daughter a lesson by putting in the vehicle with her 16-month-old brother.

Authorities were called to the home at about 4 p.m. when the mother said she had discovered them unresponsive in the auto.

She then told officers that she had to break a window and rescue the children, then called 911, authorities said.

Ms. Randolph was booked into the Parker County Jail on Friday. According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, temperatures reached 96 degrees that day.

Randolph has been jailed and no bail has been set. The Tarrant County medical examiner's office has not yet ruled on the manner and cause of each child's death.

Randolph initially said she was inside her home folding laundry and watching TV while her kids played in an enclosed back porch that was visible from the living room.

Less than a month after the tragedy, Randolph has been arrested after her original explanation for her children's deaths unraveled.
