Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

With more-is-less as its guiding principle, Transformers: The Last Knight is more of the same.

Transformers: The Last Knight has topped this weekend's box office with a $69.1 million five-day debut. While this was enough to come out on top, it doesn't bode well for the aging space robot-based series of films.

Michael Bay's fifth and final Transformers movie is-rotten!

She says: "It's just unbelievable how much this man does, and how much he's got on his plate to turn a movie of this size out".

Since it's the lowest-grossing film of the franchise so far, it would seem audiences are generally exhausted of the Transformers films.

Blockbusting director Michael Bay has helmed all films to date - the original Transformers in 2007 and its sequels Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Dark of the Moon (2011) and Age of Extinction (2014).

The movie sees Mark Wahlberg return as inventor Cade Yeager in a world where humans are warring against the titular robots - and Optimus Prime is gone. They key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth.

In a tie for second place, Warner Bros.' "Wonder Woman" and Pixar's "Cars 3" both reported 25.175 million US dollars for the weekend. It will be behind only Transformers and Disney*Pixar's Cars 3 which is doing well in its second week of release. Russian Federation should post $8.9 million in earnings from 1,251 spots. (Man of Steel earned $377 million domestic overall but sat at $271 million at this point in its run.) Cars 3 also took in just under $25.2 million, while new limited releases The Beguiled and The Big Sick impressed, earning high per-screen averages ahead of their wider releases in the coming weeks.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is rated PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo. Almost a month after opening, Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman" continues to be a major draw. Worldwide, the superhero film has now earned $653 million.

Not far behind it will be "Wonder Woman" which is still going strong and is expected to take $28.9 million between Friday and Sunday.

Fifth place went to the Tupac Shakur biopic "All Eyez On Me" with $5.85 million. The former brought in an estimated $7.4 million for a domestic haul of $24.3 million, while the latter saw a sharp 77.9 percent drop for an estimated earning of only $5.9 million. Sure, a movie about sentient robotic organisms hiding out on our planet doesn't bring to mind great drama or oration, but good plot and character development always helps. The global opening is actually up on Age of Extinction, which kicked off with $189.1 million on its way to $858.6 million internationally and a $1.104 billion total worldwide. The recent reboot of the fan-favorite 1997 film of the same name sees Cruise play Nick Morton, an archeological thief who steals ancient artifacts from sites of historical value and sells them to the highest bidder.
