Celtics working to land both Gordon Hayward and Paul George

According to Wojnarowski, the Celtics must first make sure they have a commitment from Hayward before they clear the necessary salary cap space to acquire George.

The Celtics' multi-step scheme - to nab the Jazz's Hayward off the free-agent pile before working out a blockbuster trade with the Pacers for George - is ambitious, but one well-suited for a proactive franchise with intriguing trade bait.

The Boston Celtics' reported summer plans include signing Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward as an National Basketball Association free agent and then trading for Indiana Pacers forward Paul George. Hayward could also elect to stay with the Utah Jazz. But what Boston can offer the Pacers is young players paired with future draft picks which is something IN desperately needs. The sides were growing close to a deal on draft night, but a third-team scenario fell through late in the evening that stalled talks. He added that Boston is becoming more willing to trade a significant trade package to get a deal for George done.

With George making clear his intentions to bolt from IN in free agency next summer, the Pacers front office have no option but to trade their franchise player ahead of the 2017-18 season.

One thing that might hold this up is Boston's timetable which can only kick in when free agency starts in July. However, the draft came and went without a Paul George trade coming to fruition. George averaged 23.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists in his seventh season for the Indiana Pacers.

Another option for Danny Ainge is Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin who could apparently be another player the Celtics sign in a series of moves to also land George.
