Former Mississippi State G Gabe Jackson signs huge extension with Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders and guard Gabe Jackson have reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year, $56 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2022 season.

Jackson was taken with the No. 81 pick of the 2014 NFL Draft following the Khalil Mack and Derek Carr selections (kudos to general manager Reggie McKenzie for absolutely nailing those three rounds).

Jackson is the second prominent member of Oakland's stellar 2014 draft class to get a lucrative extension this offseason. Jackson was entering the final year of the four-year, $2.95 million contract he received after getting drafted out of Mississippi State. "I just wanted to get mine done and, like we talked about, make sure the team had the flexibility to make sure my friends stay around". A large sum could go to Jackson as incentive to sign up early, well before he's eligible to hit the unrestricted free agency.

The deal includes $26 million in guaranteed money, according to Spotrac.

The $25-million average makes Carr the highest-paid player in National Football League history, but the structure of the deal could be interesting with the Raiders moving to Nevada, which does not have a state income tax, and the current CBA set to expire during the course of the deal. Guard play in the NFL has become a premium in today's league, and the Raiders should be lucky to have two of the best in Gabe and Osemele.
