Data Breach at Sabre Hits Four Seasons and Other Hotels

During this time, guest information related to a subset of hotel reservations (unencrypted payment card information, reservation information) booked through Sabre's SynXis central reservations system was accessible by an unauthorized party.

Trump Hotel properties, including Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, have been hit by a credit card breach, affecting reservations made from July 2016 to March 2017. That included guest names, email, phone numbers, addresses and other information, though the company added that Social Security numbers and passport information were not accessed.

"The privacy and protection of our guests' information is a matter we take very seriously", the notice said.

Trump Hotels has announced another data breach, saying this one involves the Sabre Hospitality Solutions service provider used by the hotels for things like booking reservations.

The attack "did not affect Trump Hotels' systems", the statement reads.

Trump International Hotels Management later agreed to pay up $50,000 to settle with NY state over the data breaches, which resulted in the theft of 70,000 credit card numbers and 300 Social Security numbers. Security journalist Brian Krebs broke the news of the Sabre breach back in May. The 2014 breach led to the exposure of more than 70,000 credit card numbers and 300 Social Security numbers, according to the Washington Post.

Reports of the breach of systems belonging to reservations systems provider Sabre first began circulating in May.

Within the past two weeks, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos, Loews Hotels, Carlson Wagonlit Travel used by some Google employees (pdf) and now Trump Hotels started notifying customers of the data breach.

SynXis offers hotel-bookings-as-a-service to tourism operators and has contacted users to let them know that unauthorised parties had accessed its systems.

As the Washington Post pointed out, five more Trump hotels were breached in November 2015. The hotel chain learned of the breach in June 2015 but waited an additional four months to notify those affected. The hotel confirmed that they were not hacked themselves. "Well, because they're a good target", Peter W. Singer, a senior fellow at the New America Foundation, told the Post.

'If more people are staying there in an attempt to curry favor with the government, the fishing pool of targets is certainly greater than it was prior to November, ' he said.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on cybersecurity that holds federal agency heads accountable for breaches in their networks.
