Ex-Kings Guard to Reunite With DeMarcus Cousins in New Orleans

He also has played 96 playoff games, won a championship with the Celtics in 2007-08 and can provide leadership.

Rondo, a free agent, has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Pelicans.

Rondo spent the 2015-16 season in Sacramento playing alongside fellow former Kentucky star Cousins. He was traded to Dallas in December 2014, where he clashed with coach Rick Carlisle.

According to The Vertical's Shams Charania, the two sides reached an agreement on a one-year deal today.

Rondo, however, missed the rest of the series with a thumb injury, and Chicago lost the next four games.

Rondo's reputation was restored enough by the Bulls' elimination that he was a candidate to be brought back - except only $3 million of his $14 million salary for 2017-18 was guaranteed if Chicago released him by June 30.

On Thursday, ESPN's Zach Lowe and Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the Pelicans were meeting with Rondo.

Rondo will nearly certainly not be a starter for the Pelicans, who just inked point guard Jrue Holiday to a massive five-year contract.

With the Pelicans, Rondo will once again share the court with Cousins, a volatile personality in his own right.

Despite his bumpy 2016-17 season, Rondo remains one of only three players to average at least six assists the past nine seasons.

Those numbers improved to 11.5 points, 10.0 assists and 8.5 rebounds in the first two games of Chicago's playoffs series against the Celtics.
