Second Person In Custody In Connection With Killing Of 4 In Pennsylvania

On a Friday night a week ago, three men got out of a pickup truck on a sprawling piece of rural Pennsylvania real estate. The location was within a couple of miles from where Meo's auto was found and where Sturgis' vehicle was discovered, a short distance away. Teens regularly circulated DiNardo's number, he told the newspaper.

Finocchiaro, Meo and Sturgis all knew each other, the AP reported, and news outlets have reported that cars belonging to two of the men have been located.

DiNardo was charged Friday with counts of conspiracy, homicide and abuse of a corpse.

Snow ordered that they be held in separate prisons out of concern for their safety.

Dinardo is also accused in the fatal shootings of Jimi Patrick and Dean Finocchiaro.

Weintraub said authorities found human remains in their search for four missing young Pennsylvania men, and they now can identify one victim.

The FBI had been using heavy equipment to dig a deep trench on the farm property and then sifting through each bucket of dirt by hand.

Investigators found the body of the four victims in a 12-foot common grave on a 70-acre farm owned by the suspect's parents in Solebury Township, about 30 miles north of Philadelphia. Then on Wednesday, authorities arrested DiNardo on charges he tried to sell Meo's 1996 Nissan Maxima a day after he was last seen.

In exchange for the cooperation and confession, Defense attorney Paul Lange says prosecutors were taking the death penalty off the table. The remains of only one, 19-year-old Dean Finocchiaro, have been identified, though authorities said other remains were found in the hole as well.

"As we are all deeply affected by this news, I encourage you to take care of yourself".

"I'm not sure", he said, "we could ever answer that question".

The Associated Press reported that DiNardo killed the four men separately after selling them marijuana and burned their bodies on the farm property in a brutal case that has captured national media attention.

"Every death was related to a purported drug transaction, and at the end of each one there's a killing", the source said.

In his confession, Dinardo detailed a series of shocking killings with no clear motive.

On Thursday, his attorney was in Philadelphia court to request a continuance for further investigation in that case.

Cosmo DiNardo was being held on US$5 million (NZ$6.83 million) cash bail after he was charged with trying to sell another victim's auto after he disappeared. Patrick only had $800, and they walked to a secluded part of the property where DiNardo shot him with a.22 caliber rifle. Dinardo took his cousin Kratz with him took Finocchiaro to the same area and killed him. He used the backhoe to move the bodies and light them on fire in the metal tank. The vehicle was found on the DiNardo family's property. There, Kratz shot Finocchiaro in the head with a handgun that belonged to Dinardo's mother, Dinardo said, according to the criminal complaint. Kratz has yet to retain legal counsel who could comment on his behalf. Finocchiaro's body was then placed in a blue tarp and he was tossed into the pig roaster. DiNardo picked up Patrick at his Newtown home July 5 and drove him to his parent's multimillion-dollar property on Lower York Road. Dinardo told investigators that he had a marijuana "deal" set up with Meo, according to the affidavit.

Dinardo then drove the backhoe over Meo and "basically crushes him", Kratz told police, according to the complaint. He used a backhoe to bury the body. He put them in the same metal tank as Finocchiaro and poured gasoline in it and lit it.

Police have been searching the farmland owned by DiNardo's family in Solebury Township since Sunday.

District Attorney Matthew Weintraub parried one question after another by saying he couldn't - or wouldn't - answer.

On Monday, the suspected killer was also charged with being in possession of a shotgun in an unrelated case from February.
