Anne Hathaway In Talks To Star In Barbie

Schumer recently pulled out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the role open for the taking.

The Barbie movie that somehow keeps happening continues to happen, asThe Hollywood Reporter claims that Anne Hathaway is in talks to step into Barbie's high-heeled plastic shoes. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Hathaway is now in negotiations to play Barbie, with the deal dependent on whether Hathaway's schedule is amenable to Sony sticking to their planned June 29, 2018 release date.

"Barbie" follows a doll kicked out of Barbieland for not being flawless enough who finds herself in the real world before returning to save her home.

Alethea Jones is in talks to direct. Amy Pascal will produce with Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Mattel. The outlet stresses that Hathaway's casting is far from a done deal, however, and no official offer has yet been put on the table. The actress also released a statement, saying, "The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners".

Hathaway isn't the only Oscar victor fixated on Barbie land: Reese Witherspoon has been developing a biopic about Ruth Handler, who created the famed doll in the 1950s. Hathaway's commitment to Barbie will depend on her schedule, as she just signed on to topline the sci-fi movie O2 for IM Global.

Amy Schumer was previously attached to star in the film, which is slated for release on June 29, 2018.

The film is expected to be PG and a broader family comedy along the lines of Splash, Enchanted and Big.
