Android 8.0 is now officially Android Oreo

Google said it is pushing Android Oreo to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) today. Monday's event may have been timed alongside the solar eclipse, but it wasn't expected to include any earth-shattering updates to Android. Similarly, this new feature will now happen to the video results that you will see on the carousel. In the description for the video, Google invites you to "watch the solar eclipse unveil the Android O superhero" and says, "Trust us, it'll be extra sweet". Nokia has been touting a "pure, updated Android" angle for its Nokia 3, 5, 6, and 8, so now it's time to back up that talk with a quick OS release. The rumors and speculations were that the launch of Android O will be done on August 21, the day of the total solar eclipse in the United States.

Android Oreo will first be available on Google devices, including the Pixel and Nexus lines. This will let users view the count without opening the app. Users will also get the option to turn off the notification badges for apps from the Settings app. Builds for its own Pixel and Nexus 5X / 6P smartphones have entered carrier testing and should be rolling out in phases soon.

What are your thoughts about Google's next name for the Android Operating System?

New notification dots have also been added which will flag when an app has an alert waiting to be addressed.

Last year, the company ran an Android Nougat beta on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge ahead of an official release in 2017. Even if you weren't one of the many making predictions, there's some good news if you're a Pixel or Pixel XL user.

Google continues to make changes to its core search product in order to enable users to find the information they are looking for faster and easier. It means one can send an email while watching you tube video. Currently, this feature was rolled out for Android users and hoping to see Google video previews feature on other platforms as well.
