What should you do with your eclipse glasses?

It's likely millions of the glasses will be tossed somewhere now that the eclipse is over. Oh wait - according to Quartz, NASA has backtracked:If the filters aren't scratched, punctured, or torn, you may reuse them indefinitely. You can drop them off anytime day or night in the box.

If you've heard rumors that the solar filters on eclipse glasses expire after three years, ignore them.

Another total solar eclipse will be visible on April 8, 2024, and central IN is IN the path of totality.

The group hasn't yet announced exactly where the glasses will be gathered in each area, but it's reportedly planning to partner with astronomy clubs and companies across the United States to facilitate the collection drive and prepare them for shipment to areas where they are needed.

Since most Americans won't need glasses again for seven years, Astronomers Without Borders wants people to donate their pairs so students in South America and Asia can watch when the moon blocks out the sun over those continents in 2019.

Of course, you can always keep them as a souvenir.

They are collecting glasses through the end of August in a white mailbox located outside of the emergency management office located at 1420 Highland Drive in Washington. Just take out the plastic lens before tossing them in a recycling bin, advises one recycling specialist to Earth911.
