Warning to anyone who's used CeX as two million customer details leak

To be fair, it seems some of CeX's customers don't seem that bothered about the breach. The company does admit that this wasn't enough, stating: 'Clearly however, additional measures were required to prevent such a sophisticated breach occurring'.

The company is vague on the specifics of the hack, saying only that " an unauthorised third party has accessed this data" and that it was "sophisticated".

Second-hand video game and gadget retailer Cex has said up to two million of its customers have had their private details stolen. Leaked details include full names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and encrypted but expired credit/debit card information. "We would like to make it clear that any payment card information that may have been taken, has long since expired as we stopped storing financial data in 2009".

It's that time again when we reset the imaginary internet sign to read "0 days without a United Kingdom data breach". It said there's no indication in-store personal membership information has been compromised.

If you have used the CEX website, have a webuy online account, and use the same password elsewhere, it's definitely advised that you do change all similar passwords.

Up to two million people have had their data stolen on an online breach, including addresses and credit card information.

'As such, as a precautionary measure, we advise customers to change their password across other services where they may have re-used their WeBuy website password'.

"It is another reminder that all data, particularly customer data needs protecting by companies of all sizes", said Javvad Malik from security firm AlienVault.

CeX has 300 outlets across the United Kingdom, with at least 20 stores located in Scotland. It also owns a limited number of stores in the US. It's surprising that CeX still stored customer card details prior to 2009.

'Together we have implemented additional advanced measures of security to prevent this from happening again'.
