Blind long-snapper Jake Olson helps USC score an extra point

At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Olson has good size for a college long snapper and he handled the duties for his high school team as well.

There will be debates over how well USC's Heisman Trophy candidate, quarterback Sam Darnold, played in Saturday's season-opening, 49-31 win over Western Michigan University, but there is no controversy over the single most dramatic moment in the game.

"I loved being out there", Olson said. By age 12, he had to have both his eyes removed, but that didn't stop him from pursuing his athletic dreams.

Olson lost the sight in both of his eyes as a child because of retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer. Interviews with USC head coach Clay Helton, and Jake Olson.

Olson knew going into the game that if the opportunity presented itself, he might get a chance to snap.

With 3:13 left in the game, after Marvell Tell's 37-yard interception return for a touchdown, the Trojans called a time out and sent Jake Olson onto the field to snap for the extra point.

"I didn't want him to be put in when it was really close", Cindy said. "He went in there like a pro, and it was a great snap". And it's clear just how much the moment meant to the entire USC squad after Olson perfectly executed the snap for the extra point.

Father Brian Olson said: "It's surreal".
