Trump says Iran is violating 'spirit' of Iran nuclear deal

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrives at 10 Downing Street in London, Britain, September 14, 2017.

In the past days, some news has been spread about European troika aliging with the USA in the way of dealing with the nuclear agreement of July 2015 between Iran and Sextet.

Tillerson recalled the preamble of the agreement, which expected the deal "will positively contribute to regional and worldwide peace and security", and contrasted it with the regime's continued malign activity in the region.

Jamil N. Jaffer, the founder of the National Security Institute at George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School, wrote an op-ed forUS News in which he laid out how the US could forge a nuclear deal with Iran that actually stopped Iran from illicitly obtaining nuclear weapons.

Conversely, the USA could be seen as having violated a deal that was working, and the Iranians will feel free to resume their nuclear activities. Former President Barack Obama's administration, which negotiated the deal, did so in mid-January and Trump's administration did so again on May 17. But he said those violations don't constitute serious-enough breaches to jeopardize the deal and that Iran returned to compliance after being caught.

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed new sanctions on seven Iranian individuals for allegedly participating in cyberattacks against the United States and two entities related to Tehran's ballistic missile program, the Department of Treasury said on Thursday.

The administration is also weighing whether to pressure the International Atomic Energy Agency to more rigorously enforce the current terms of the deal by gaining access to military sites. Congress mandated such checkups every 90 days and the next deadline is in October.

"During all the years since the [1979] Islamic Revolution, the West has never been kind to Iranian people, so what they did was not unexpected", said Velayati, an advisor to Leader of the Islaimc Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

"In the case of Iran, there have been some news stories about Israel's purported position on the nuclear deal with Iran". At such a situation Iran's right of protesting or even leaving the nuclear agreement is reserved.

"So, we won't get anxious if they use pressure".

The idea may meet more skepticism from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who cited the "good end" reached in the Iran accord in an interview published this week, saying the approach could be replicated in talks over North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

The leaked memo is the latest bid by critics of the nuclear deal to shape the White House debate on the issue after a number of hawks were forced out of the White House, including chief strategist Stephen Bannon and Derek Harvey, who served on the National Security Council.

Pushing a decision off on Congress would be similar to Trump's recent moves on other key policies, including immigration, health care and tax reform.
