Leeds hold nerve from the spot to defeat Burnley

All Whites striker Chris Wood came off the bench to score his third goal in four games for Burnley this morning, but Wood's former side Leeds got the last laugh, winning on penalties in today's League Cup knockout clash.

Ladbrokes have been forced to apologise to Burnley for a message on social media which contained a rude gesture towards players Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor.

The Clarets were in action last night against Leeds United in the League Cup.

Burnley had put out a statement on Wednesday saying they were aware of the tweet and had contacted Ladbrokes for comment.

"We were poor and they played very well", he said.

Leeds eventually knocked Burnley out of the competition on penalties after the game finished 2-2.

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen is hopeful that the midweek victory over a Premier League side in Burnley gives Whites the confidence to launch a promotion bid this season.

"Maybe I got the changes wrong, but I was expecting a lot more from my players".

"We had enough opportunities to win in normal time, that's my only gripe", Dyche said. "But Woody has done fantastically, walking on to our pitch and scoring, and again in the shootout".

In the sixth minute of added time, Robbie Brady stepped up for Burnley with a sublime free kick to take the tie to extra time. The team sacked the Premier League winning manager, Claudio Ranieri about halfway through the season previous year.
