Erdogan Appears to Order Security Detail To Rough Up American Protesters (Again)

However, the New York Police Department said this was incorrect, and that they had detained five protesters and released them shortly after.

Other video angles captured during that incident appeared to show Erdogan watching from afar as his guards attacked some of the demonstrators. The Turkish president resumed speaking less than two minutes after the the attack. No arrests were made, and no injuries were reported.

"One guy who was Marriott security, grabbed me and said 'I got you man, I got you, ' that's when I was running the gauntlet", he said. They threw several punches and brutally beat one of the protesters before escorting him out of the venue.

"We are going to conduct a bilateral meeting with my dear friend Donald, as well as a discussion between the delegations", Erdogan said ahead of the meeting on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly.

In May, Turkish security officials were captured on video hitting and kicking peaceful protesters outside the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington, D.C., while Erdogan stood by his vehicle and watched. Another video emerged showing Mr. Erdogan himself watching the attack from a Mercedes-Benz sedan parked a few yards away. A total of 19 people have been indicted in relation to the violence - and 15 of them work for the Turkish president.

A member of the crowd at Thursday's speech, who posted video footage to social media, alleged that the man who shouted at Erdogan was an American national who had volunteered for the People's Protection Units, or YPG, the Kurdish militia in northern Syria that is battling the Islamic State militant group (ISIS).

In 2011, Erdogan's security detail beat a UN security guard after he refused to allow the Turkish president to enter the General Assembly hall of the United Nations in NY through the wrong entrance. Mr. Erdogan, for his part, accused American officers on the scene of bungling the situation.
