China imposes limit on oil supply to North Korea

Ri Yong Ho, North Korea's Foreign Minister gave the hint on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY saying that the test could be carried out in the Pacific Ocean after leader Kim Jong Un vowed to take the "highest-level" action against the United States.

Kim also threatened US President Trump and said in the statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency, promising to make Trump "pay dearly for his speech", as per Reuters report.

In recent months, the North has launched a pair of still-developmental ICBMs it said were capable of striking the continental United States and a pair of intermediate-range missiles that soared over Japanese territory.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, who had earlier compared Mr Trump's speech to "the sound of a barking dog", has warned that Pyongyang could test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in response to the USA president's threat. The White House said that during the meeting, Trump urged the United Kingdom to increase pressure on Pyongyang to ditch their nuclear weapons program.

A handful of North Korea analysts believe Kim's response - the first time he has ever released a first-person statement - could show how personally the young leader took Trump's speech.

The meeting took place after Trump's inaugural speech to the United Nations general assembly in NY.

Should North Korea detonate an H-bomb over the Pacific, she added, it would be an "unprecedented act of aggression".

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that it detected a magnitude 3.5 quake in the area of previous North Korean nuclear tests, but that it was unable to confirm whether the event was natural.

"We can't be satisfied that the United Nations has approved new sanctions against North Korea", Abe said.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is expected to brief reporters later Thursday.

His foreign minister, asked on a visit to NY to attend the U.N. General Assembly what the countermeasure would be, said his country may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean.

How are South Koreans talking about North Korea's nuclear threats?

North Korea has suggested that it could test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific, the latest in an escalating tit-for-tat between leader Kim Jong Un and President Trump.

The 2018 Games are to be staged in Pyeongchang, just 80 km (50 miles) from the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, the world's most heavily armed border.
