Anthony Weiner jailed for sexting teenager

Anthony Weiner could spend more than two years in prison if prosecutors get their way.

Last year, a 15-year-old North Carolina girl told Daily Mail that she and Weiner exchanged explicit messages for months. He pleaded guilty in May to transferring obscene messages to a minor, and agreed he would not appeal any sentence of 27 months or less. Weiner was forced to register as a sex offender. Weiner, weeping as he read from a written statement on a page he held in front of him, called his crime his "rock bottom". Weiner's habit led him to resign his House seat in 2011, doomed his 2013 run for mayor, and rocked Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign during the closing days of the race, when FBI agents investigating his contact with the teen came across emails on his laptop between Abedin and Clinton. Things seemed to be going well for Creepy Weiner-in 2013 he attempted a political comeback, running for mayor of NY, but that was short-lived when it was revealed that Creepy Weiner couldn't stop being a fucking creep and had been sending dirty photos to a 22-year-old woman under the pseudonym "Carlos Danger".

The maximum penalty he faced was 10 years. As his parents but not his wife looked on in the courtroom, the New York Democrat was given until November 6 to report to prison for misconduct that included getting the North Carolina high school student to strip and touch herself on Skype and Snapchat.

Assistant attorney Amanda Kramer urged the judge to give Weiner - who has a history of such behaviour - a significant prison sentence to end his "tragic cycle" of sexting. The latter was captured in the 2016 documentary, Weiner.

A prison sentence would "promote respect for the law and serve as a deterrent to others who are considering a (similar) path", they say. Defense attorney Arlo Devlin-Brown said "hundreds" of grown women took part in "thousands" of racy conversations with the former Brooklyn congressman.

The FBI was investigating Weiner's contact with the high school student when it came across emails on his laptop between Ms Abedin and Mrs Clinton, prompting Mr Comey to announce in October that he was reopening the investigation into Mrs Clinton's use of a private computer server. Abedin has filed for divorce.

She also said Weiner "has a disease". Over the next few hours Weiner exchanged messages with her that ranged "from the mundane to the provocative". Investigators ultimately determined the emails were mostly ones they had previously seen and Clinton was ultimately cleared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation two days before the election.
