Megyn Kelly Has Awkward Interview With Jane Fonda

There were several mishaps throughout the week, and these did not go unnoticed. Monday's show (the only one so far for which final numbers are available) drew 2.93 million viewers, up from 2.61 million the previous week but down from the same day a year ago. Her debut with the network came in June when she launched a newsmagazine show "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly".

During Friday's episode, Kelly reflected on the negative media coverage she's received during her first week at the new gig.

She started off well, offering a compliment to the veteran actress...

As we predicted this morning, it was only a matter of time until viewers of Megyn Kelly Today were going to be exposed to another cringeworthy interview to suffer through. "That's called live TV", she said.

She had both Robert Redford, 81, and Jane Fonda, 79, on as guests to talk about their new movie, Our Souls at Night.

Talk about awkward. As far as car-crash TV goes, last week's wreck involved a Maserati and a Lamborghini.

Then there was that highly publicized incident on Wednesday's show in which Jane Fonda glared at Kelly and changed the subject when Kelly asked about Fonda's plastic surgery. "But it just seemed like the wrong time and place to ask that question". As Kelly interviewed soccer superstar Carli Lloyd, a rogue cameraman hovered across the screen for a split second, completely obscuring Lloyd. The taped interview didn't seem that exciting.

As CNN's Brian Lowry wrote, "It's absurdly early, of course, to draw any conclusions about the efficacy of the Kelly experiment". "The itinerary just said Today Show appearance. Of course, I haven't had [plastic surgery]", Redford said.

As for her fashion choice, Kelly channeled Melania Trump, wearing a pink pussy-bow blouse, much like the one Melania wore to her husband's debate after the release of the 2005 "Access Hollywood" tape where he boasted of grabbing women's you-know-what. "Even though you may be old, it's never too late to take a leap of faith and see what will happen-and to be courageous in life".
