South Korea Armed Forces Day

According to South Korean President Moon Jae-in's security adviser, "strategic assets" are moving to the peninsula late this year as North Korea ramped up its personal attacks on President Donald Trump.

China urged North Korea August 6 to make a "smart decision", after the United Nations imposed tough new sanctions on the isolated regime over its missile and nuclear programmes. It is also necessary to significantly develop the Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation, which is designed for thorough retribution.

North Korea's Romeo-class sub, seen in this photo of Kim Jong Un released in 2014, are part of Pyongyang's fleet of 80 submarines, a South Korean analyst says.

"The Korean government's determination to safeguard peace is anchored in formidable national defense capabilities". "Our armed forces' combat strength overwhelms that of North Korea".

Technically, wartime operational control is supposed to stay in USA hands until Korea is considered ready to command the troops.

"When the South has wartime operational control, the North will fear us more, and our armed forces will be trusted more", Moon said.

Also shown during the event were the ground-to-ground Army Tactical Missile System, the Hyungung anti-tank guided weapon, Patriot PAC-II air defense missiles, M-SAM surface-to-air missiles and the SLAM-ER air-to-ground missile. "It will be possible to fundamentally curb the North's nuclear provocations when the Korea-U.S. extended deterrence is actually exercised". According to spokesmen of the ruling Democratic Party and opposition People's Party, Chung told them that the United States has promised to expand rotational deployments of strategic assets near the peninsula.

"Strategic assets" is a key term under worldwide treaties that means nuclear weapons or the means to deliver them, such as bombers or ballistic missile submarines.

"It will start as early as the end of the year and will help expand our additional defense capabilities", Chung said, in quotes relayed to press by Cheong Yang-seog, deputy floor leader of the Bareun Party in the National Assembly.

Pyongyang says it will not give up on its nuclear deterrence unless Washington ends its hostile policy toward the country and dissolves the US-led United Nations command in South Korea.
