Donald Trump Decries "Ingrates"; San Juan Mayor Says "Frankly, My Dear…"

President Donald Trump of the United States of America has squarely placed blame on the slow pace of response to recovery from the devastating effect of hurricane Maria at the door step of Puerto Ricans. "We stand with the mayor of San Juan-Carmen Yulín Cruz-and the people of Puerto Rico", said USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran. Meanwhile Trump tweets from a golf course that the people of Puerto Rico want everything done for them.

It's not clear what, exactly, caused Trump to lash out against Cr Cruz, who has issued increasingly desperate pleas for help as her island of 3.4 million people struggles to obtain clean water, fuel, electricity and other basic supplies.

In a perhaps-unconscious echo of George W. Bush's 2005 "heckuva job" appraisal of his own administration's response to Hurricane Katrina, on Saturday Donald Trump took to Twitter to laud his government's "amazing job" after Hurricane Maria and continued to jeer Puerto Ricans who have called for more efficient federal relief from the damage caused by the most powerful storm to strike the territory in almost 90 years.

"We tried to embed staff with the mayor", Long said.

Coffins that were washed downhill from the Lares Municipal Cemetery by a landslide are seen in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Lares, Puerto Rico, September 30, 2017.

It also doesn't help that Trump appears convinced that everything is going just fine over in Puerto Rico based on nothing.

There was no time for our scheduled interview, but she invited us to come along, so we jumped in the tray of the big, black truck for a high-speed pelt along the highways of San Juan, tailed by ambulances and police.

Sanders says that, due to some of Trump's past comments, he thinks "we have a right to be suspect that he is treating the people of Puerto Rico in a different way than he has treated the people of Texas or Florida".

Mayor Cruz also took to social media in the midst Trump's tweeting, saying her number-one goal is to save lives. "This is the time to show our "true colours". "We can not be distracted by anything else", Cruz wrote alongside photographs of relief work on the island.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says Cruz's comments were "unfair" and that "when the president gets attacked, he attacks back".

"Miranda specifically took up the charge for defending Cruz, who he insisted "[had] been working 24/7" on the ground in Puerto Rico while Trump "[had] been GOLFING".

Relief workers haven't been able to distribute the goods, in part because only about 20 percent of Puerto Rico's truck drivers have reported back to work since Hurricane Maria swept through, according to a representative for Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.

"We're going to move them quickly to 11 points in Puerto Rico where mayors can go get food, water for their communities", Rossello said.
