Sheikh Hasina seeks United Kingdom support to resolve Rohingya crisis

The exodus began after Myanmar security forces responded to Rohingya militants' attacks on August 25 by launching a brutal crackdown that the United Nations has denounced as ethnic cleansing.

In a statement posted on its Twitter feed, the salvation Army of the Rohingya of the Arakan (ARSA) explains that the truce will end on October 9th at midnight.

Muslim Rohingya insurgents said on Saturday they are ready to respond to any peace move by the Myanmar government but a one-month ceasefire they declared to enable the delivery of aid in violence-racked Rakhine State is about to end.

"If at any stage, the Burmese government is inclined to peace, then Arsa will welcome that inclination and reciprocate", it added, using the former name for Myanmar. Asked for comments, a government spokesperson said: "We have no policy to negotiate with terrorists".

Geneva: The lack of humanitarian access granted by Myanmar's government to Rakhine state, where more than half a million Rohingya Muslims have fled violence, is "unacceptable", the United Nations said on Friday.

The first official talks between the countries since the latest exodus, which the United Nations dubs as the "world's fastest-developing refugee crisis", was held on Oct 2 when Myanmar's Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe came to Dhaka.

Swamped by refugees, poor Bangladeshi villagers are faced with mounting hardships and worries, including the trafficking of illegal drugs, particularly methamphetamines, from Myanmar.

Rohingya refugees and rights groups have accused the army of setting the fires with the help of Buddhist vigilante mobs.

Khan said Bangladesh wants to "send back all Rohingya to Myanmar successfully". And given how vulnerable the Rohingya, who have managed to take refuge in our land, are, ruling out such a possibility might be disastrous.

"We crossed the border the day before yesterday", said newly-arrived refugee Mohammad Hossain, explaining that his group was brought to the Balukhali camp in the Cox's Bazar district by the Bangladeshi army in a truck.

He added, "When you concentrate too many people into a very small area, particularly the people who are very vulnerable to diseases, it is unsafe".

"It is much easier to manage people, manage the health situation and security situation if there are a number of different camps rather than one concentrated camp".

After the completion of the new camp, covering an area of about three thousand acres, it will be the world's largest, bigger than Bidi Bidi in Uganda and Dadaab in Kenya.
