Top LeT commander among two terrorist killed in Pulwama encounter

Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Wasim Shah, wanted in connection with several terror attacks, and his aide were gunned down on Saturday by the security forces in an encounter in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Waseem Shah was Lashkar's district commander and one of the 'notorious'militants operating in South Kashmir".

The security forces fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells to disperse the enraged protesters, who took to the roads in retaliation for the killings of two Kashmiri youth during a search operation in Litter area of the district. Police and its unique operation bunch cordoned off the region, which led to finding him, police said. "Well done JKP boys and other SF (security forces)", J-K's Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid tweeted.

Reports said that the funeral prayers of Wasim Shah were offered at least five times in Heff village to accommodate the rush of people who were marching from different areas of south Kashmir.

More than 150 militants, including top commanders Sabzar Bhat, Junaid Matoo, Ayoub Lelhari, Bashir Lashkari, Abu Dujana and Mehmood Gaznavi, have been killed by the security forces this year, which is highest in the last eight years.

The other slain militant has been identified as Nisar Ahmed Mir, who had joined the militant outfit in this year.

He said that after the news about the killings of the LeT terrorists spread in the area, announcements were made through mosque public address systems asking people to come out and stage protests.

Pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised as the bodies of both the militants, killed in a gunfight in Litter village earlier today, were marched towards the graveyard. One of the injured, identified as Gulzar Mir, who had sustained a gunshot died in a hospital, reports added.

A police spokesman said the policemen were returning to Kulgam after dropping PDP MLA Abdul Majid Padder at his residence in Noorabal in Damhal Hanjipora when militants attacked their vehicle at Nadimarg morh in Kulgam in the evening.
