Hawks to net two more draft picks in trade with Cavs

The Hawks will waive Jefferson and Felder once the deal is officially completed, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. Jefferson, 37, played two seasons in a reserve role with the Cavaliers, but served as a key contributor during the team's comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the 2016 Finals.

According to Sam Amick, Cleveland is sending Jefferson, Felder, and two second round picks for the rights to overseas players Dimitrios Agravanis and Sergii Gladyr.

The Cavaliers will send the lesser of second-round picks owed to them from the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019 and a 2020 second-round pick via Portland, league sources said.

Cleveland will create two trade exceptions ($2.6 million and $1.4 million) with the trade.

The Cavaliers are not able to re-sign Jefferson for a calendar year, meaning that the 37-year-old could decide to retire.

As teams look to finalize their rosters before the start of the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers had some tough decisions to make. It's a purely salary cap saving maneuver for the Cavaliers, who are well over the salary cap and paying exponential luxury tax penalties. In 42 appearances with Cleveland last season, he averaged 4.0 points per game while also splitting time with the Canton Charge. Jefferson's excellent presence in the Cavs locker room culminated in the creation of the Road Trippin' podcast featuring Jefferson, teammate Channing Frye, and Fox Sports Ohio reporter Allie Clifton.

Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue didn't have much to say about the deal prior to Friday's preseason game against Orlando. "My journey is different, but it's a business and I understand it".
