Amazon Studios exec Roy Price resigns following harassment allegations

Amazon Studios head Roy Price has resigned, the company announced Tuesday.

In a story that appeared last week in The Hollywood Reporter, Isa Hackett, a producer on the Amazon series "The Man in the High Castle", said she was "repeatedly and insistently propositioned" by Price in 2015 at a Comic-Con in San Diego, where Hackett was promoting the show.

Price was placed on a leave of absence Thursday, with Amazon chief operating officer Albert Cheng taking over as studio head on an interim basis.

Price also had forged an alliance with the now-embattled The Weinstein Co., orchestrating very expensive deals for $70-million Matthew Weiner series The Romanoffs and $160-million two-season pickup of a David O. Russell drama starring Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore.

The Times adds: "Before that series of tweets, Ms. McGowan had directed a Twitter message at Mr. Price concerning Mr. Weinstein, asking, 'Remember when I told you not to do a deal with him and why?'"

"I feel inspired by the other women who have been far braver than I am, who have come forward", si She said one thing that can help change the "culture of harassment" in Hollywood is "an infusion of new and diverse leadership, not just including women but gay people, people of color, people with disabilities - people with the full spectrum of life experience".

In a memo to staff Friday, Amazon vp business development Jeff Blackburn told employees that "Amazon does not tolerate harassment or abuse of our employees or our business partners". He said it hadn't been proven.

Weinstein, 65, has denied several rape allegations, claiming all sexual encounters were consensual.

What happened after she went public?

As for Price, his tenure at Amazon dates back to 2004.

Price oversaw shows including "Transparent" and "The Man in the High Castle" while at Amazon.

In an acknowledgement of those challenges, the company is now in the process of a strategy pivot.
