Person Who Deleted Trump's Twitter Account Said to Be Contractor

President Donald Trump's Twitter account briefly disappeared on Thursday after it was deactivated by a customer support worker on their last day.

The person who shut the President out of Twitter was reportedly a private contractor hired by the company.

. San Francisco-based Twitter says a customer support employee who was leaving the company is responsible.

Micah Zenko, a national security analyst at the Chatham House worldwide affairs think tank, said it was "amazing" how Twitter mishandled Trump's account.

Hundreds of employees are able to access the accounts of so-called Very Important Tweeters, or VITs, and can take actions like disabling the accounts, according to current and former Twitter employees. "I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact", he wrote.

Cyber security experts had previously speculated Twitter could have installed special protections on Trump's account, such as the ability to only access it from certain devices.

Joseph Lorenzo Hall, chief technologist at the nonprofit Center for Democracy and Technology, said the suspension reflected a need for Twitter to be more transparent about its ability to control accounts but also demonstrated the perils of a head of state relying on digital technology as a primary mode of communication.

The employee's bold move sparked a flurry of praise from fellow Twitterati, with many suggesting the disgruntled employee should should be in line for a hefty bonus.
