Auburn athletics posts highest Graduation Success Rate in program history

The Wolf Pack's first score was 62 percent in 2005 and the GSR has risen steadily since. Thus, those in the 2007 freshman class would have earned a degree by 2013; those in the 2008 class by 2014, those in the 2009 class by 2015, and those in the 2010 class by 2016.

"We're very proud of our student-athletes in persisting to graduation", said USU Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services Dr. Brian Evans.

"Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall", Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said in a statement.

The federal graduation rate for all Division I athletes this year was 68 percent, compared to 66 percent for all students at colleges and universities that play Division I sports.

Texas Tech concluded the 2016-17 year with an 82 percent Graduation Success Rate among student-athletes, topping its previous high mark from a year before by a percentage point.

Eleven Gonzaga athletic programs, including men's basketball for the first time, posted ideal 100 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to the NCAA.

A year ago, five Tech teams finished with a GSR of 100. In addition, those same eight programs all have GSR rates that are equal or higher than the national average for each sport.

Loyola had flawless GPRs for men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country and track and field, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball. Statistics represent students that began their studies during the 2010-11 academic year. Division I scholarship athletes in many ways ought to graduate at higher rates than their peers, given that their financial needs are largely met.

The GSR was developed to more accurately assess the academic performance of student-athletes. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution (essentially passed to another squad's GSR cohort if they transfer and removed altogether in the case of early departures for professional careers). "Our coaches and staff maintain a focus on academic achievement by our student-athletes and will continue to do so".
