Wishbone and Drumstick Must Strut Stuff to Receive Presidential Pardon

It's a cool deal for Minnesota turkey growers, and Carl Wittenburg of Alexandria, Minnesota, Chair of the National Turkey Federation, who's tasked with providing the turkeys that President Trump will pardon.

I get it. It's a tradition 70-years strong to pardon a couple of Presidential turkeys before Thanksgiving.

Not all those birds were as lucky as Wishbone and Drumstick, whose names were selected by a White House social media poll.

President George H Bush established the annual turkey pardon tradition in 1989 when he spared an unnamed, 50-pound turkey but the tradition is thought to stem back to President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 when he spared the life of a bird his son had befriended. Donald Trump failed again to address sexual misconduct allegations surrounding senate candidate Roy Moore, but pardoned a turkey.

"I have been informed by the White House counsel's office that Tater and Tot's pardons can not under any circumstances be revoked", he joked.

"Today I'm going to be a much nicer president", he said.

"He was a tough cookie", Trump said of Truman.

"So Tater and Tot, you can rest easy", the President said. But Drumstick and his pal Wishbone just might be the most thankful of all.

Trump thanked the military and law enforcement prior to the pardon.

The turkeys, however, will head to a farm in Virginia to spend the rest of their turkey days.
