UCLA Hires Chip Kelly As Head Football Coach

He went 26-21 in three seasons as Eagles head coach and 2-14 in his one-year tenure as 49ers coach. Kelly was also a top candidate for the Florida job, but took himself out of the running on Friday after getting the offer from UCLA. Now, we reportedly know why he made the decision to land in the Pac-12 for the foreseeable future.

Chip Kelly will be named new head coach of UCLA's football team, Yahoo!

Kelly has a 46-7 career record at OR, including an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game and finished in the top-five in three of his four seasons with the Ducks. "His success speaks for itself, but more than that, I firmly believe that his passion for the game and his innovative approach to coaching student-athletes make him the ideal fit for our program".

But UCLA likely sees the huge potential for Kelly as the head coach. I'd like to thank Josh Rebholz, Casey Wasserman and Troy Aikman for their input during this process, as their candor, experience and support were invaluable.

UCLA is looking to replace Jim Mora, whom the Bruins just fired earlier in the week.

He went 46-7 in four seasons at OR from 2009-2012 before leaving for the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. In their run to the title in 2010, OR ran an offense at breakneck speed, ranking 106th in time of possession while leading the Pac-12 in scoring with 49.3 points per game. Since then Kelly has been working as an analyst for ESPN.
