Donald Trump changes story on reasons for firing Michael Flynn

The special counsel, Robert Mueller, removed a top FBI agent from his investigation into Russian election meddling after the Justice Department's inspector general began examining whether the agent sent text messages that expressed anti-Trump political views, according to three people briefed on the matter.

Mr Miller was responding to the part of Mr Trump's tweet in which he said he fired Mr Flynn in February because he "lied to the Vice-President and the FBI". Neither Trump nor Pence indicated concern then that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had not been told the true story. "But the existence of the text messages is likely to fuel claims by Mr. Trump that the F.B.I. has a bias against him and that he is a target of the "deep state" - a term used to describe the notion that government intelligence agencies secretly conspire together".

Donald Trump's former top adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying over his contacts with Russian Federation, in a dramatic escalation of the FBI's probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

The Impeach-O-Meter is a wildly subjective and speculative daily estimate of the likelihood that Donald Trump leaves office before his term ends, whether by being impeached (and convicted) or by resigning under threat of same.

The tweet immediately caught the attention of critics, who questioned whether Trump knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when the President asked then-FBI Director James Comey to let the investigation into Flynn go.

"We got no democrat help and I think that's going to cost them very big in the election, because basically they voted against tax cuts", he added.

In at least one instance, prosecutors say Flynn was directed by a "very senior member" of the presidential transition team to discuss a United Nations resolution on whether to condemn Israel's building of settlements.

"No I'm not", Trump said in his first public remarks on the plea deal.

The White House has disputed Mr Comey's testimony.

Donald Trump has changed his story on why he fired Michael Flynn as his national security adviser.

The revelations also undermine Trump's often repeated contention that the Russian Federation investigation is little more than a witch hunt being perpetrated by his political enemies.

To his credit, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation has already cost taxpayers over $5 million, shuffled Strzok off to the Siberian bowels of the FBI's human resources department.

Trump, en route to NY for a full day of fund-raising, stressed that there was "no collusion" between his campaign and the Russians.
