Jimbo Fisher leaving FSU to become head coach at Texas A&M

Jimbo Fisher has left his job as head coach of Florida State to join Texas A&M.

Today, Jimbo Fisher informed me he has accepted an offer to become the next head football coach at Texas A&M University.

Fisher maintained Thursday that he expects to coach the Seminoles for their regular-season finale against Louisiana-Monroe, repeatedly refusing to answer whether he'll be back at Florida State in 2018.

Florida State will find out who their opponent and destination will be during Sunday afternoon when the bowl games and matchups are revealed during ESPN's Selection Sunday show.

"No call, no text, you could of said something ..."

Fisher goes to a program that has lofty hopes amid a drought: Texas A&M last won a conference championship in 1998, when it was in the Big 12.

While Florida State was holding its final practice for Saturday's game, Texas A&M's Board of Regents was meeting to discuss the hiring of a new coach. With the victory, the Seminoles moved to 6-6 on the season and became bowl-eligible, extending the streak to 36 straight seasons ending with a bowl game. Sumlin was 51-26 in his career at Texas A&M, but the administration had grew exhausted of Sumlin after his apparent failures to build upon the 11-2 record in his first season at the school. Odell Haggins coached the Seminoles to the victory.

Florida State University has one of the premier programs in college football and has had only two head football coaches in the past 40 years.

Miami coach Mark Richt: "I've been through it, so I know job changes can happen. I've been waiting to come to this school and it's like really upsetting". And I guess we'll see [Fisher] next year, if that's what he's going to do.

"Florida State is Florida State".

"Evidently he feels like that's the right move for him and his family and the right time to do so", Swinney said at an ACC title game news conference.
