Garrison Keillor reportedly fired for 'improper behavior'

Minnesota Public Radio, the distributor of A Prairie Home Companion, has reportedly cut ties with Keillor, the show's creator.

Keillor, who retired from "A Prairie Home Companion" in 2016 but continued producing "The Writer's Almanac" for syndication, confirmed his firing to The Associated Press, saying his removal was linked to "a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard". Keillor ended his run hosting that show previous year, but he still produced "The Writer's Almanac", which is carried by hundreds of public radio stations. "The attorney leading the independent investigation has been conducting interviews and reviewing documents, and the investigation is still ongoing". "I meant to pat her back after she told me about her unhappiness and her shirt was open and my hand went up it about six inches".

Keillor even managed a joke of sorts: "Getting fired is a real distinction in broadcasting and I've waited fifty years for the honor".

Others expressed sadness. Belle Scott of Minneapolis said she was distressed by the Keillor news as well as the recent reports of sexual misconduct by Minnesota U.S. Sen. "I only wish it could've been for something more heroic". Upon entering Jestine's Kitchen, Keillor fixates on the first waitress who acknowledges him: I walked into Jestine's Kitchen in Charleston, and a waitress said, 'Is there just one of you, sweetheart?' and her voice was like jasmine and teaberry. "While we appreciate the contributions Garrison has made to MPR and to all of public radio, we believe this decision is the right thing to do and is necessary to continue to earn the trust of our audiences, employees and supporters of our public service". Eleven years later, a talk show host in L.A., she goes public with her embarrassment, and there is talk of resignation.

The revelation came less than a day after the Washington Post published a column by Keillor defending Al Franken, one of his home state's senators, who has been under fire after multiple women have come forward with allegations of inappropriate sexual contact.

In 1998 Keillor wrote "Wobegon Boy", a novel about a radio host who is wrongly accused of sexual harassment and fired by his station.

Keillor, 75, wrote about how Franken participated in a USO tour in 2006 before he ran for the U.S. Senate and when he was still in the "comedy biz". "And I can not in conscience bring danger to a great organization I've worked hard for since 1969", Keillor told the news organization.
