Google to yank Youtube from Amazon in nasty giant fight

"Echo Show and Fire TV now display a standard web view of YouTube.com and point customers directly to YouTube's existing website", Amazon has said.

Google has made a decision to block YouTube on multiple Amazon media devices, part of an escalating feud between the two tech companies.

This news is disappointing and hurts Amazon and Google's customers. Here's hoping that both parties can come to some form of agreement soon.

Google's latest move is to pull the ability to watch its wildly popular video-sharing site YouTube from Amazon's Echo Show (a version of the Echo smartspeaker with a 7-inch touchscreen) and its Fire TV platform. YouTube was supposed to disappear from the Echo Show Tuesday, although Amazon has previously found ways to make unauthorized versions of YouTube available on that device.

As a result of the feud between Amazon and Google, owners of Amazon's Fire TV streaming device and Echo Show smart speaker will lose access to YouTube. Amazon later added YouTube to the device, its voice commands for the service violated the terms of use.

A Google spokesman said in an emailed statement that the company has been trying to reach a reciprocal agreement with Amazon for products and services but has not done so. Shortly after, Amazon stopped selling the Nest E Thermostat, Nest's Camera IQ, and the Nest Secure alarm system.

Although Google began as an online search company and Amazon as an online retailer, each company now has a powerful position in Internet hardware and content industries, with many overlapping products and services.

Amazon seems to refrain from selling Google products that compete directly with its own, such as Amazon Echo range (which compete with Google Home) and Fire TV (which compete with Google's Chromecast). Alongside this, Amazon also refuses to carry Nest branded products, owned by Alphabet, Google's parent company, leaving the devices without Cast support.

YouTube blocked the Echo Show's work-around effective December 5. Not all of them will play video from Amazon - though Apple TV just got Amazon's app Wednesday.
