Alita: Battle Angel Trailer: Cyborgs, Scientists, Mahershala Ali in Sunglasses

When he made a decision to concentrate on the world of Avatar, he gave up in directing Alita himself and passed the reins to Robert Rodriguez.

If you are not familiar with Alita: Battle Angel, then you may know it by another name. Alita is a cyborg rescued from a scrap heap by a scientist (Christoph Waltz, in what appears to be a good guy role for once).

The trailer depicts live-action clips featuring computer-animated actors, such as Rosa Salazar (who, in a motion-capture suit, plays the titular character), communicating directly with non-animated actors. Haley previously teased the unique experience of filming his completely CG character. It will hit theaters July 20.

"Robert and I have been looking for a film to do together for years, so I was pumped when he said he wanted to do 'Battle Angel, '" Cameron said in the 2015 announcement of the film.

You can watch the trailer below! It focuses on a cyborg named Alita who is brought back online after losing all her memories. When Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she's grown to love she becomes deterimed to uncover the truth behind her origin and sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world.

Cameron remains on-board as producer and writer, so it will be interesting to see how Rodriguez (who has traditionally only filmed his own scripts) absorbs the near two decades of work that has already gone into this film.

They look so weird, in fact, that it's nearly easy to overlook the rest of her body, which isn't quite human either.

The CGI faces (and certain things that went with them) were bad decisions, ones that will ultimately hurt the film instead of ameliorating it. The first Alita: Battle Angel trailer is here to show us. The characters that gets the most attention are Hugo (Keean Johnson) and Ido (Christoph Waltz).

We get it, she's an anime.
