CNN in Hot Water Over Erroneous Trump-WikiLeaks Story

An email given to congressional investigators shows that members of the Trump campaign were offered a website address and decryption key that would give them access to hacked Wikileaks documents.

In fact, it was fake news, as fake as it gets, and CNN has nobody to blame but itself - its zeal to take down the president, its eagerness to swallow any horse manure fed to it by unknown, and very possibly imaginary, "sources", its unconscionable decision not to name and shame the "sources", and its own sheer lack of professionalism.

In a tweet Saturday, the president also criticized ABC News and reporter Brian Ross for a recent, incorrect story that Trump, as a candidate in the 2016 White House race, had illegally instructed campaign member Mike Flynn to make contact with Russian Federation, in an apparent attempt to help defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

This morning, CNN published an article alleging an effort was made to connect Donald Trump's presidential campaign with documents hacked from the Democratic National Committee nine days prior to their publication. In fact, the email was sent to Trump and his son on September 14, 2016, the day after WikiLeaks had released the documents publicly on its website and Twitter account.

The network was forced to return a reporter to the air to issue an apology and has since pulled the story, but has refused to fire the offending employee. On Sept 13, the day before the email, WikiLeaks had tweeted links to what the group said was 678.4 megabytes of DNC documents. He would only comment on the parts of the CNN report that had already been confirmed by Trump Jr.'s lawyer.

The company argued the report cited two unnamed sources who allege they saw the email.

Others, however, have come to CNN's defense, saying the story was an honest mistake from otherwise reliable reporters. The president doesn't use email, and the message went to an account for Trump that isn't monitored, he said. "Their slogan should be CNN, THE LEAST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS!" the President tweeted Saturday.

In 2010, for instance, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange posted a "poison pill" on the Internet in the form of a 1.4-gigabyte file that contained damaging information, possibly about the U.S. government.

He released direct messages on Twitter he had exchanged with Wikileaks after a report from The Atlantic magazine brought the communications to light.
