Mohamed Salah awarded BBC African Footballer of the Year

The Egypt worldwide, who has racked up a double figure goal tally since moving to the Premier League from Roma, was presented with his award by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at the club's Melwood training ground.

He helped propel the "Pharaohs" in the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) earlier this year in Gabon and especially to qualify them for the World Cup, after 28 years of absence from the competition.

The Reds are next in action against struggling West Brom at Anfield on Wednesday night but they won't be complaining too much if Salah continues his hot streak against Alan Pardew's men.

Sadio Mané (Liverpool F.C. and Senegal) and Victor Moses (Chelsea and Nigeria) had been nominated for the prestigious award along with Salah.

With this achievement, Salah becomes the third Egyptian to wear this crown after Mohamed Barakat (2005) and Mohamed Aboutrika (2008).

Salah has 19 goals for Liverpool this season, equalling his total from last season in Italy.

"When I started as a manager he was a kid and nobody could have imagined that we would work together".

Other previous winners of the award include: Yaya Touré (2015 & 2013), Yacine Brahimi (2014), Christopher Katongo (2012) and André Ayew (2011).

Salah said: "I have always followed my way, and I want everyone in Egypt to follow my way".

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp hailed Salah's win "a fantastic prize for a pretty good player" and insisted he is a "really lucky person" to have worked with "a few fantastic, outstandingly good players" and now Salah.

"I want to be the best Egyptian ever so I work hard".

"It is a big pleasure to work with him and the other guys together".
