Texas Jobless Rate for November at Record Low of 3.8 Percent

The new figure was four-tenths of a point lower than the revised November 2016 rate of 2.9 percent.

The Texas jobless rate has improved for the seventh month in a row with November unemployment slipping to a record 3.8 percent.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Alaska's unemployment rate is at its highest levels since May 2012, when it was also 7.2 percent.

Governor Ivey says the state now has 30,500 more jobs than it did a year ago.

Amarillo and Midland had the lowest unemployment rates in Texas for November at 2.6%.

Tennessee first marked a historic low unemployment rate in June at 3.6 percent, which was bested by the July rate of 3.4 percent, and then fell even lower in August to 3.3 percent. In total, 17 states have unemployment rates below this national average of 4.1 percent.

"Private-sector employers added 52,000 jobs in November and have accounted for the addition of 294,600 positions in Texas over the past year", said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. Leisure and Hospitality employment continued to grow by adding 8,000 jobs in November. Job totals have also essentially been unchanged in 23 other states.

Auburn-Opelika was ranked 16th in a USA Today article listing cities that added the most jobs in 2017. California was second in job additions with 288,300.

The county unemployment rates for November 2017 will be published on Thursday, December 28th, at 1:30pm CT.

Nine of eleven major industries showed increased growth in November, including Professional and Business Services with 14,700 jobs added and Construction which added 8,200 positions.
