'Let Us Celebrate' - Trump Rings In Kwanzaa

They're hosting a community celebration for all ages on Saturday, Dec. 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Seven candles are lighted over the seven days of Kwanzaa and are symbolic of Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of African heritage.

Trump's three-sentence statement, issued Tuesday, contained similar language to Obama's previous remarks but included little of Obama's emphasis on the broader values of African-American heritage.

Having declared victory in the "assault" on saying Merry Christmas, President Trump on Tuesday sent out "warmest wishes" for those celebrating Kwanzaa. From how long it lasts to its seven principles, here's what you need to know! The holiday, which always runs from December 26 to January 1, derives its name from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza", meaning "first fruits".

The candles - one black, three red and three green - each symbolize a different principle: unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), objective (nia), creativity (kuumba) and faith (imani). The final line of the blog was a quote suggesting that Kwanzaa, like the Seinfeld-inspired Festivus, was a "fake holiday".

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration at the end of every year honoring African-American culture, and it includes a ritualistic lighting of a candle holder called a kinara. The first day focuses on unity. The seven principles are: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (faith).

Kwanzaa is considered a cultural holiday, not a religious one according to the Official Kwanzaa Website. Kwanzaa is the celebration of a culture, not a religion.
